Threat hunting started simple: get ahead of attackers instead of waiting for alerts. But somewhere along the way, we got tired of saying “threat hunting” repeatedly. Too wordy. Not our style. So “thrunting” happened.
What began as shorthand in Twitter (RIP 🪦) somehow stuck. Now, it’s everywhere, from casual chats to DEATHCon workshops.
Why? Because thrunting has that perfect blend of hacker culture and “I dare you to question this term” energy. The beauty of thrunting isn’t just in saving syllables. It’s about the community that adopted it. No marketing team dreamed this up. It came from late nights and actual work, spreading organically through Signal chats and conference halls. Will it last? Who knows. But for now, it works. It’s fast, ours, and gets the job done.
That’s why it’s here to stay.
So go forth, be relentless, and keep thrunting.
Happy thrunting!
